Entry-Level Boarding & Grooming Assistant - July 2026

Following an overwhelming response to our recent recruitment drive, we have one final position available to complete our team.

Maraboon Pet Resort is looking for an enthusiastic and reliable team member to join our Boarding & Grooming team in a hands-on role caring for our canine guests.

This is an entry-level position and the perfect opportunity for someone looking to begin a career in the animal care industry. No grooming experience is required—we're looking for someone with a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and a genuine love of animals.

 

The Role

Your week will be split between our boarding kennels and grooming salon.

Monday & Friday – Boarding

  • 7:30 am – 5:30 pm (including a generous 2-hour lunch break)
  • Caring for and exercising boarding dogs
  • Feeding, cleaning and maintaining high hygiene standards
  • Providing enrichment and ensuring every guest enjoys their stay

Tuesday & Wednesday – Grooming Salon

  • 7:30 am – 4:00 pm
  • Bathing and drying dogs
  • Assisting our groomers with day-to-day salon operations
  • Maintaining a clean and organised workspace

Weekend Work
Weekend shifts are shared fairly across the team and currently operate on a 1 in 4 weekend roster.

SENIOR BOARDING ATTENDANT – July 2026

Look no further as we are looking for another Superstar to join our team. This position has hands on responsibilities, caring for our guests and leading the boarding department in a senior capacity. ABOUT THE RESORT: 

With a strong client and guest network, the Maraboon Pet Resort is a family friendly resort that works alongside the Maraboon Vet Surgery, administering outstanding animal service to the Central Highlands region. Located in the largest town, Emerald, MPR prides itself on providing the very best care to its customers (and furry friends!). MPR is a state of the art facility with a very busy schedule revolving around animal boarding (cats and dogs), dog grooming and doggy day care. Providing exceptional customer service and animal care are our highest priorities. With a high focus on supporting and training its employees, low staff turnover and a strong team work ethic, MPR is a highly sought after place of employment. 

The Maraboon Pet Resort is also undergoing a building extension, bringing the long awaited administration building to life. This will feature state-of-the-art facilities including premiere reception, grooming salon, cattery and a new vet clinic! This buildling is due to open in late 2026, so we need more exceptional staff coming on board with fresh energy. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Advanced kennel assistant duties including animal handling, monitoring guests, animal rotations, providing meals to guests, bathing dogs and providing updates to owners

  • Kennel cleaning - this is a large part of the role!

  • Providing superior customer service to guest owners

  • Providing leadership and guidance to junior staff members

  • Senior duties including administering medication to guests, managing guest bookings, liaising with the manager and veterinarians and overseeing the whole boarding department

  • Transporting guests across Emerald in our resort van

  • Assisting the Doggy Day Care department occasionally including executing the super fun DDC program. 

  • Assisting with reception duties including taking phone calls, greeting and discharging clients/guests and payment handling/end of day settlements. 

 

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Punctual and diligent work ethic

  • Leadership experience

  • Have your own form of transport and a QLD Driver's Licence

  • Be self motivated and eager to learn

  • Above average physical fitness level (heavy lifting is part of the role and you will spend all day on your feet!)

  • Strong ability to work in a cohesive team environment as well as independently (must be able to show initiative!). 

  • A high priority approach to guest and client care with fantastic customer service skills

  • Great communication skills, written and verbal

  • Great animal handling skills and a lover to all pets! 

  • Must be available during peak periods (school holidays, Easter and Christmas)
